Goodnight Mommy (2014), was released today, Friday, September 11. I, like many people, was horrified (in a good way) by the trailer and have been waiting for this movie to come out for months. (Is the mom an alien, an "other," a demon? Or are the little boys crazy or is it ghosts? That trailer makes the movie look insane. Watch it above if you haven't yet.) I looked everywhere for this movie. It doesn't seem to be showing in the entire metro Atlanta area and I suspect it's only showing in L.A. and NYC. It's also nowhere to stream legally online or buy. Good luck if you want to watch it.
Even though I know that any movie dubbed as the "scariest movie ever" by critics (what about It Follows? I thought that was supposed to be the scariest movie ever) isn't going to be scary, I had high hopes for this film. I'm very disappointed. I immediately figured out the movie's twist. Partly because I watch a TON of horror movies, partly becuase I have a brain and partly because I recently read The Other by Thomas Tryon. The Other is basically the same story just way creepier.
I was really hoping the one twin wasn't dead and the mom was actually crazy. No such luck. There are many hints at a supernatural element, but there isn't one. The 2 I remember take part in a dreamscape. It's a movie about one little boy who tortures his mother because he's gone insane after his brother's death and his mother's disfiguring accident. This movie was disturbing in a way I don't care for. The boys' treatment of the mother is horrifying and I will probably have nightmares tonight.
I saw The Visit last night and was going to write a review about. The movie was so terrible, I'm not going to waste my time. If you must see it, its a rent on Amazon type deal.
