About a month ago, Bestie visited me here in my new town. It was so nice to have her come, the move being so stressful. I like to see her about once a month, but we decided once every two months is what we are aiming for. Atlanta is a lot farther than North Carolina. I happened to stay with her over Thanksgiving for several days. It was supposed to be for one night, but it ended up being three because I was so sick and had to go to the hospital. She's the best. And Sophie the cat is a wonderful nurse.
The drive was absolutely beautiful! My little '98 Honda Accord had trouble with the mountain roads, but we made it. Georgetown is a beautiful small town completely surrounded by mountains. They have maintained most of their old buildings so everything feels very old and precious (in a good way).
It was freezing outside so we basically ate at a small Italian restaurant (our waitress, who confessed she's from Boulder, used ya'll) and then ran with our hoods up from shop to shop. I found some great Christmas gifts. The best store was this amazing vintage and antique store, Ophelia's Antique Gallery. I found a beautiful 1950's dress right away, but it was too expensive for some of the wear in it. It did look great on me. I wish all of my clothes fit me the way this dress did. My favorite part were the vintage books. She had an entire section of children's books, which are the vintage books I collect, and I spent about an hour going through them. They were seriously amazing.
Next we found a shop that sold international things. Many gorgeous items from Sweden. I found several Catholic and Orthodox icons from Russia (I LOVE everything about Russia). There was jewelry, hand towels, Christmas decorations, mugs. Just amazing. Each store was better than the last.
We ended up leaving earlier than we wanted to because I'd accidentally locked Husband out of the house, but we had the chance to drive up the scenic road for a bit. I took a lot of pictures and I'm excited to share them with you!
Georgetown is having a Christmas festival this weekend and I'm hoping I feel better enough to drive up. I've been told it's not one to miss.
