I've been branching out lately! In the past, I've added embroidery through my work by embroidering through watercolor paper, which is quite challenging. But, I've moved off of portraits for the time being and am working with acrylic and gouache instead of watercolor.
I'm very inspired by Liz Payne's work. I used to think she bought or had fabric made for her and then embroidered on top of that. I recently realized (by reading, duh) she is painting on fabric with acrylic paint and then embroidering over it. My brain exploded in ideas.
I'm working on a series of paintings exploring dreamscapes. These paintings reflect my hopes and dreams (as in dreams of having babies, being content, hot pink, unicorns). I plan on including these embroidered pieces as part of the series. They're chaotic, yet still beautiful and fun.
The embroidery is extremely work intensive. I don't know what I thought it was going to be like, but it's a lot of work. I love it and am overwhelmed by it. Like most of my art, I go back and forth between, "I can finish this" and "This is too much." Much like I feel about my paintings in the middle of them, "This is awesome, I am awesome!" and "What is this? Is abstract art even real?"
Check back for updates of these bad boys. Have an excellent Friday!
